Afternoon Tea with Dr Max Price, Vice-Chancellor of UCT
Oxford based Alumni had the opportunity of meeting Dr Max Price in the gracious surroundings of Rhodes House in Oxford. Afternoon tea was served amongst the several alumni who thoroughly enjoyed meeting old and new friends whilst having the chance to listen to Dr Price speak about UCT and its successes.

South African Wine-tasting
The University of Cape Town Trust, in conjunction with the Graduate School of Business’s First Thursday Club, held a South African wine-tasting and networking event, in the splendid surroundings of South Africa House : wine and expertise were provided by SA Wines Online, including a talk from Founder and Managing Director, Kevin Gallagher, who offered fascinating insights into the South African wine industry. The event was a huge success with everyone enjoying the wines and canapés throughout the evening.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price visited Cambridge during his recent UK trip where he hosted an informal lunch which was attended by 25 UCT alumni. They were all delighted to meet the VC, and also to have the opportunity to meet other local alumni.

A highly successful Alumni reception was held at the sumptuous surroundings of Mansion House, the residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Over 120 Alumni and friends were treated to a fascinating lecture from alumnus, Dr Ian Goldin, who gave his eye-opening predictions for the future of the planet. Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price gave a quick update on the good news emanating from UCT as well as the current challenges it faces. Guests were also honoured with the presence of the Lord Mayor, Alderman Michael Bear, himself a South African and a Wits alumnus, who was delighted to welcome so many South Africans to his home.

Some 75 UCT Alumni and friends gathered at The Barbican in London to attend a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price hosted a drinks and canapé reception before the concert and also during the interval, and took the opportunity to update the attendees with news from UCT.

Monday 19th March 2012 : “Drug Discovery in Africa - Challenges, Status and Opportunities”. Professor Kelly Chibale, Director of the UCT Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3-D) and DST/NRF South Africa Research Chair in Drug Discovery, will give a talk focusing on health challenges in Africa and the drivers that provided impetus for the establishment of H3-D.
